What Is Normal
Bruising, redness, swelling, and soreness are all very normal and common to experience with a new body piercing. Itchiness and secretion are signs of a healing piercing.
While healing your jewelry should have excess space. Jewelry that is too tight or small may result in an embedded piece of jewelry in the skin. If your jewelry is too tight or small, return to your piercer immediately to have it adjusted to a proper fit.
|
What To Avoid
Avoid pulling, moving or picking at a piercing during the entire healing process. Avoid exposure to any body of water during healing process as they contain bacteria and harsh chemicals as well, such as chlorine in pools.
Avoid harsh cleaning agents such as alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, antibacterial soap, and bactine etc. Do not apply any ointments to the piercing while healing as they just prevent oxygen flow to the piercing.
|
How To Clean Standard Body Piercings
Get a fine mist sterile saline or wound wash spray. With clean hands, spray both sides of the piercing twice a day for the entire healing time of the piercing.
Salt water soaks: With clean hands, dissolve 1/4 a teaspoon of natural/non-iodized sea salt with 1 cup of warm distilled water, soak the piercing for 5 minutes twice a day for the entire healing time of the piercing. Only directly soak the piercing, do not soak the piercing with cotton balls or Q-tips as they can further irritate the healing piercing.
Mixing your own soak can result in more error than a saline spray, however whichever cleaning method is more convenient for your lifestyle works just fine. Overcleaning your piercing can do more harm than good to the piercing. Twice a day is sufficient enough for adequate healing.

What To Avoid
Avoiding spicy and citrus foods is suggested for the first three weeks as they can contribute to swelling and discomfort. We also recommend avoiding the use of straws during the healing process. Try eating soft or liquid foods, as well as anything iced or cold might help relieve swelling and discomfort/pain.
Avoid any oral contact while healing.
|
How To Clean Oral Body Piercings
Get a fine sterile saline or wound wash spray, with clean hands spray both sides of the piercing twice a day. As well as alcohol AND peroxide free mouthwash, rinse your mouth for 30-60 seconds after any time you eat, smoke, or drink anything besides water.
|
What To Expect
Oral piercings heal more quickly compared to most standard body piercings, however they swell a lot. The inside of oral piercings may turn a white color around the jewelry for the first few weeks, this is completely normal as it's just dead skin cells while your piercing is in the healing stage.
Your piercing should have excess space on the jewelry the entire time you're healing. Jewelry that is too tight, or small may result in an embedded piece of jewelry in the skin. If you notice your jewelry is too tight or small, return to your piercer immediately to have it adjusted to a proper fit.

Important: Keep Your Jewelry In
If jewelry is removed the piercing may start to close and or heal completely, regardless of how long you've had the piercing for or if it's well healed. The time it takes for a piercing to fully close is dependant on various factors. So try your best to keep jewelry in.
